Using The FM Radio on Your Phone

30/3/2020

Many of you may be struggling to view internet content because the wifi in your centre is over loaded now that most people are stuck indoors. For that reason, it would useful to be able to use an FM radio, especially to listen to the latest news.
Many smartphones have an FM radio included (not all)
Check on your phone for an app that says "AM/FM Radio or just "Radio". If there's one there, then you should see this icon and radio tuning capability when you open the app. It is important you have your wired headphones connected as they act as an antenna.

For those who want to listed to official Irish News then 88.2MHz is FM frequency for RTE Radio 1. You can scan for other radio stations. This facility uses no internet; not wifi nor mobile data and if coverage is poor just move your phone around until the signal improves.

If you do not have a radio app installed, then there is a possibility that your phone does not support over the air radio. However, you can search for the "Next Radio Free Live FM Radio" in the Play or App store. If you do not see the exact name and icon as shown below, DO NOT install any other as they will just try to use the internet. You are not seeing the app because your phone does not support over the air radio.
