The Irish Government thanks YOU for all your efforts in complying with the lockdown & helping to stop the spread of COVID 19 and for helping to SAVE LIVES. The virus is NOT GONE AWAY so very careful compliance with restrictions is still required during Phase 1 of reopening from 18th May until the 7th of June. Normal rules regarding frequent & careful hand washing and social distancing continue to apply and are JUST AS IMPORTANT now as they were at the very start. If you are not at work or going back to work, then very little changes in terms of restrictions. However, groups of no more than 4 can meet in the open whilst observing the normal 2m social distancing rule, within 5km from where they live. You still may NOT go into other people's homes or congregate in other buildings and for those in the Centres, if you stay out over night without prior agreement with Centre Management, then you can be stopped from returning. There is now also guidance on wearing FACE MASKS (Face Coverings). Masks, made by ladies in Ashbourne & Kinsale Road Centres were given to residents in all Cork City Centres. Face masks are mostly about you preventing the spread of the virus from you yourself to others when you may have it but have not yet started to feel the symptoms. You are therefore caring for others by wearing a mask. They are NOT MANDATORY but you are advised to wear them in areas outside the Centres where social distancing is not possible or is difficult to ensure - i.e. in shops, shopping centres etc. From a hygiene point of view and to prevent infecting yourself when wearing a mask, the Irish Government Guidance on Wearing a Face Covering referred to here on this website should be carefully adhered to. Please read it carefully. Wearing gloves for non-medical uses is NOT RECOMMENDED by the Irish Government as it can increase the potential of virus spread.
