Vulnerable to be Moved to new Accommodation outside Existing Direct Provision Centres

2/4/2020

Yesterday the Irish Government announced that an additional 650 accommodation spaces will be introduced across the country starting over the next few days.  Some of these spaces will be in Cork.
People in Direct Provision centres who are considered to be highly vulnerable to the Corona Virus will be moved out to this new accommodation. Centre Management will have the details of who is to be moved from Glenvera on this coming Saturday the 4th of April.  Those being moved are considered to be more vulnerable to Covid-19.  There is no reason to believe they are of risk to you.  They are just more likely to have more complications if they get the virus.

The Government wants to keep  people living in Direct Provision safe. They have said that they are concerned about the following:
  • Some residents are continuing to visit other people in their homes
  • Some residents are meeting visitors adjacent to centres
  • Some residents are staying out of centres overnight.
Government instructions to restrict the spread of the Corona Virus are very clear and the above activity could be putting you and others at risk of contracting the virus.

According to the Government announcement, visiting others in their homes is currently NOT PERMITTED
If you have a special reason why you believe you need to visit other people in other locations OR to stay out over night then you MUST discuss this with Centre Management and get permission first. If you do not do this, you should be aware that Centre Management have been instructed by Government agencies to stop those who break the rules from re-entering Direct Provision centres in order to protect other residents.

Brij has been advised that most residents are complying with the rules and we understand that this is very difficult at the moment.
Official advice  on restrictions & health precautions are summarised on our Health Advice and Official Information pages.

Stay Safe & Take Care
